Inspiring the next generation of Women in Tower Hamlets

An exciting week-long programme of events leading up to International Women’s Day on Saturday (March 8) has been organised by Tower Hamlets Council for young women aged 13-19 and women with special educational needs aged up to 25.
Inspiring change for a greater awareness of women’s equality is this year’s theme and the council has lined-up workshops to celebrate the achievement of young women and a platform to showcase their work throughout the week from Monday, March 3.
Performances, music, drama and inspiring speakers hope to educate the young women at the finale cultural extravaganza on Saturday, March 8, at the Brady Arts Centre in Hanbury Street, Whitechapel from 12noon – 6pm.
Mayor of Tower Hamlets, Lutfur Rahman, said: “The achievements of women and the fight against gender inequality will be celebrated across the borough this month. I am pleased we have a fantastic set of workshops and events to celebrate   what local young women can achieve.”
Cabinet Member for Culture, Cllr Rania Khan, said: “Inspiring change is this year’s theme and there are some great free activities on offer across the borough for young women and I encourage them all to join in.”
Brady Arts Centre will play host to street dancing tutorials, bag making and advice workshops on tackling sexual exploitation,  in addition to live performance, music and an award ceremony on Saturday, March 8.
Motivational speaker, Martine Wright, Paralympics and 7/7 survivor will also deliver an inspiring speech to the young girls attending.
Sessions are for women only and booking is not required.
