Bangladesh switches on 4G wireless network

Bangladesh entered into the fourth-generation mobile internet network era on Monday evening.
Country’s three largest telecom companies Grameenphone, Robi and Banglalink have launched their 4G service to their customers in major cities soon after they obtained the licences from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
Mustafa Jabbar, the minister of the Telecommunication and ICT Ministry handed over the licences to the chief executive officers (CEOs) of the three mobile operators at a ceremony in Dhaka Club this evening.
State-run mobile operator Teletalk also got licence for launching 4G service.
Telecom companies said the service would improve customers’ daily life and the service quality of trade and business. E-education and e-health will also be available at the doorsteps of the common people.
Around 1 crore among 6.5 crores GP customers turned their SIM cards into 4G. The operator makes 4G available in Dhaka and some parts of Chittagong and Sylhet as part of its initial launch.
A senior official of Robi on Sunday said it is going to launch the service in several cities including Dhaka and Chittagong.
Banglalink subscribers from Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna, and Sylhet will be able to enjoy its 4G service.
Teletalk, however, is not ready to provide 4G service yet. The state-run operator deposited Tk 10 crore for the 4G licence to the BTRC.
