West London businesses face fines

Businesses in Ealing and Hanwell are facing financial penalties for employing illegal workers following operations by our officers.
Acting on intelligence, officers visited Amia Beauty Salon, The Mall, Ealing, and Londis, Greenford Avenue, Hanwell on 18 February 2014. Individuals were questioned to check if they had the right to be in the UK.
At Amia, which was visited at about 10:15, officers arrested a 24-year-old Indian woman who was found to be working in breach of her visa conditions.
They then visited Londis at 11:45. There, they arrested two Sri Lankan nationals. A 27-year-old man was working in breach of his visa conditions while a woman, also aged 27, was not found to be working but arrested for an immigration offence.
All those arrested were detained pending removal from the country.
The businesses were served notices warning that a civil penalty of up to £10,000 per illegal worker found will be imposed unless proof is provided that the correct right-to-work checks were carried out. This is a potential total of £10,000 for both businesses.
