Nikki Bradley awarded MBE in New Year’s Honours List

Nikki Bradley awarded MBE in New Year’s Honours List for services to children and families.
Nikki Bradley, whose family live in St Ives in Cornwall, qualified as a social worker at Middlesex Polytechnic in 1985. Since then, she has worked as a social worker in various London Boroughs – in child protection, mental health services, adoption services and as a children’s guardian. Nikki joined Tower Hamlets in 2007 as a project manager with responsibility for parenting services. Subsequently, Nikki established the innovative Family Intervention Project (FIP) in Tower Hamlets which won the Guardian Public Service Award in 2009. Building on the success of this work, FIP has expanded to become a traded service and with its partner social enterprise Kineara, now also provides services in other London authorities.
As a result of the success of the FIP, Nikki became an advisor to central government on intensive family work and contributed to the development of the current Troubled Families initiative. Her knowledge and expertise were recognised by Louise Casey, Director General, Troubled Families at the Department for Communities and Local Government, during the course of a visit to Tower Hamlets in the summer of 2013.
The Mayor of Tower Hamlets, Lutfur Rahman, also met Ms Casey during the course of that visit. The Mayor said today: “I was pleased to have the opportunity to meet with Louise Casey and to discuss with her the concerns facing people in Tower Hamlets when she came to visit the Family Intervention Project. It is the excellent work that the council and its partner agencies have done together that has made this project such a success and Nikki Bradley has been at the heart of this partnership approach.
“I was also impressed to hear how Nikki Bradley had not only established the project locally but also helped to shape thinking on intensive family intervention nationally. This award recognises Nikki’s outstanding contribution.”
Tower Hamlets Cabinet Member for Children, Schools and Families, Oliur Rahman, said: “I’m delighted Nikki has received this honour recognising her achievements in helping Tower Hamlets families, particularly because social care is extremely challenging work which often goes unsung.”
Steve Liddicott, Interim Service Head of Children’s Social Care at Tower Hamlets Council, said: “We are pleased that Nikki Bradley, Service Manager, Family Interventions, has been awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honours for Services to Children and Families. I am sure that we would all join with the Mayor in congratulating Nikki in the recognition of her contribution to services to children and families, both in Tower Hamlets and over the course of her career.”
