Have your say this May!
Local people will be heading to the polls on Thursday 3 May. And for those not yet registered to vote there are only a few weeks left to apply to register and ensure you have your say.
The polls are for the Mayor of Tower Hamlets and local councillors who represent borough wards on Tower Hamlets Council.
In order to be able to cast your vote, you need to ensure you have applied to register by 17 April and are approved to vote at these elections.
Chief Executive of the council and Returning Officer for the elections, Will Tuckley, said: “Applying to register to vote only takes a few minutes – it is quick and easy.
“By registering to vote, you can ensure you will have a say on who will be Mayor and which councillors will serve the borough for the next four years.
“It is an important decision, and one that everyone has a stake in. I hope as many local people as possible will ensure they are registered so they can cast their vote on Thursday 3 May.”
You can apply to register to vote by visiting the Government’s website www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
To check if you are registered, contact electoral services on 020 7364 0872 or email vote@towerhamlets.gov.uk.
Plans are also well underway to deliver the elections on 3 May.
Tower Hamlets Council is supporting the CrimeStoppers and Electoral Commission campaign ‘Your Vote is Yours Alone’, and is also a postal vote pilot area supported by the Cabinet Office and Electoral Commission.
This project will monitor the distribution and return of postal votes to ensure the process works effectively and people are able to cast their votes securely.
You can raise any concerns about the forthcoming elections with the council and Police via a simple online form in the ‘Report It’ and ‘Elections’ sections of the council website.
Alternatively you can contact the police directly by email SETelections@met.police.uk, call 101 or contact CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111 and they will pass the information on to Tower Hamlets Police.
