DMP imposes indefinite bans on city meeting-rallies

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) imposed a ban on holding any kind of meeting, procession and rally in the capital for an indefinite period from Sunday evening to avert anarchy and confrontation.
Fearing violence that could harm citizen’s safety to lives and properties, the city’s law enforcement authority took such decision as different political parties including ruling Awami League and BNP-led 20 party alliance had set to hold grand rally in the city on January 5 (Monday).
DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia imposed the ban according to section 76/2 of the police ordinance.
The ban will start from 5:00pm Sunday and will resume until further order not given, Deputy Commissioner (PR) of DMP Massudur Rahman told the reporter.
