Mayor’s Cup Grant Awards Ceremony on Monday 10 February

Media and photographers are invited to attend an event on Monday 10 February at 6pm at York Hall in Old Ford Road, Bethnal Green, where community groups will benefit from extra funding to enable them to provide much needed services.
Up to 22 organisations have been selected to receive cheques of £500 each following the success of the Mayor’s Cup – a football tournament which has attracted sponsorship from local businesses.
The tournament held in April last year showcased local talent with more than 60 teams taking part and more than 900 players.
The council is committed to promoting sport and introduced the tournament to encourage more people to take up football.
The lucky organisations which will receive the cash boost have been invited to an awards ceremony at York Hall hosted by the Mayor of Tower Hamlets, Lutfur Rahman.
The Mayor said: “I am pleased to announce that the Mayor’s Cup was a huge success with community groups benefiting from money raised through the sponsorship of the competition.”
“The funds will be used to enhance the valuable services community groups provide and cement collaborative working in Tower Hamlets.”
