More than 100 homes planned as Watts Grove gets the green light

Tower Hamlets Council has announced a multi-million pound housing development in Bow with 149 homes planned.
At a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, February 5, the Mayor of Tower Hamlets, Lutfur Rahman announced that a stalled programme to build 149 homes on the Watts Grove development had now been rekindled following agreement of a new funding model.
With more than 20,000 people on the council’s housing waiting list it was paramount to find a solution to unlock the potential housing.
Mayor Lutfur Rahman said: “By refusing to budge on our commitment to value for money we’ve secured the homes that residents need despite the climate of austerity. This is the approach Tower Hamlets needs to tackle our historic housing problems.”
Cllr Rabina Khan, cabinet member for housing said: “Tower Hamlets has built more affordable homes than any other council in the UK. We’ve been able to do this by negotiating hard and making sure local people get the best possible value.”
“Sometimes that is straightforward, sometimes it takes a little time but our track record shows that this administration has what it takes to tackle the housing crisis head on.”
