Sign up to the council’s energy co-op and save an average of £130 off your energy bills
Residents who register for the next energy switching auction could join the hundreds of households already saving an average of £130 on their annual energy bill.
T.H.E. Community Power is the council’s innovative energy-saving scheme which was launched in 2012 to give residents access to information and advice on how they can be energy efficient and save money.
The scheme has helped residents to ensure they are getting the best value out of their energy providers by joining up with the London-wide switching campaign, The Big London Energy Switch. Using an auction-style system, energy companies are allowed to put forward their most competitive rates, thereby bringing cheaper energy tariffs to anyone who has registered their interest.
The last auction was held in November 2013 and residents in Tower Hamlets saw an average saving of almost £130 per year on their energy bills if they decided to switch provider, with most people seeing savings of around £160.
The next auction is on Tuesday, February 18, and there is still time to sign up. Residents need to register by Monday, February 17, either via the online portal by 11.59pm or by calling freephone 0800 508 8364 by 5pm.
Mayor of Tower Hamlets, Lutfur Rahman, said: “At a time when residents are concerned about the cost of living and rising energy prices, T.H.E. Community Power scheme allows us to help residents become more energy efficient and save money. If you haven’t already done so I recommend taking part in the next auction to see how much you could be saving.”
To register your interest now, with no obligation to switch your energy provider, call 0800 508 8364 or go to www.towerhamlets.gov.uk/energy for more information.
