An exciting week-long programme of events leading up to International Women\u2019s Day on Saturday (March 8) has been organised by Tower Hamlets Council for young women aged 13-19 and women with special educational needs aged up to 25.
\nInspiring change for a greater awareness of women\u2019s equality is this year\u2019s theme and the council has lined-up workshops to celebrate the achievement of young women and a platform to showcase their work throughout the week from Monday, March 3.
\nPerformances, music, drama and inspiring speakers hope to educate the young women at the finale cultural extravaganza on Saturday, March 8, at the Brady Arts Centre in Hanbury Street, Whitechapel from 12noon – 6pm.
\nMayor of Tower Hamlets, Lutfur Rahman, said: \u201cThe achievements of women and the fight against gender inequality will be celebrated across the borough this month. I am pleased we have a fantastic set of workshops and events to celebrate\u00a0\u00a0 what local young women can achieve.\u201d
\nCabinet Member for Culture, Cllr Rania Khan, said: \u201cInspiring change is this year\u2019s theme and there are some great free activities on offer across the borough for young women and I encourage them all to join in.\u201d
\nBrady Arts Centre will play host to street dancing tutorials, bag making and advice workshops on tackling sexual exploitation,\u00a0 in addition to live performance, music and an award ceremony on Saturday, March 8.
\nMotivational speaker, Martine Wright, Paralympics and 7\/7 survivor will also deliver an inspiring speech to the young girls attending.
\nSessions are for women only and booking is not required.
