Tower Hamlets Council has won a national award for procurement in the prestigious National Government Opportunities (GO) Excellence in Public Procurement Awards 2014\/15.
\nTower Hamlets came first in the category for GO Procurement Innovation or Initiative of the Year Award for Health and Health Related Organisations.
\nThe award was given for the work that the council has done to promote and develop a consortia made up of local third sector organisations, which have bid competitively for social care tenders.
\nThe council was also recognised for the work it has done to develop ways of procuring services that enable and support successful consortia tenders.
\nThe initiative included changing both the council\u2019s internal procurement procedures and processes and the way the council engages with local social care providers.
\nThe council has so far completed three major procurement exercises resulting in three successful services being commissioned.
\nThe services have delivered ground-breaking and innovative benefits for residents, enhanced local partnership working and improved value for money.
\nMayor of Tower Hamlets, Lutfur Rahman said: \u201cI am proud that the council continues to find new ways to deliver excellent services, despite wider financial challenges. This is a fantastic recognition of our hard work and commitment to local residents.\u201d
