Fifty one Bangladeshi workers returned home from Iraq\u2019s capital Baghdad this morning in the wake of severe internal conflicts involving different forces in the war-torn country.
\nThe workers reached at International Hazrat Shahjalal Airport in Dhaka by a Qatar Airways flight around 5:00am.
\nThey return home in their own initiatives on “security ground”, said Md Sharif of Pabna, who is one among the 51 workers.
\nSharif said they worked in Hanwha Engineering and Construction, a South Korean company which is working on a project named “Bismaya New City Project” in South Baghdad.
\nSharif, who went there in November last year, said he was getting handsome salary from the company but he returned home for the sake of security only.
\nHe further said 200 more Bangladeshis who work for the same company might return home on July 10 and July 14.
\nEarlier on July 1, 27 other workers of the same company returned home on the same ground.
\nAround 4,000 Bangladeshis are working at the company in constant fear of attacks by Sunni insurgents as the latter have already swept over a large part of Iraq’s north since June 5 and are advancing to the south.
\nOver 20,000 Bangladeshis are working in various sectors in Iraq, according to the expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment ministry.<\/p>\n
