{"id":2198,"date":"2014-07-20T09:27:12","date_gmt":"2014-07-20T09:27:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/?p=2198"},"modified":"2014-07-20T09:27:47","modified_gmt":"2014-07-20T09:27:47","slug":"egyptian-wins-top-quran-contest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/index.php\/egyptian-wins-top-quran-contest\/","title":{"rendered":"Egyptian wins top Qur\u2019an contest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Quran.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2200\" src=\"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Quran.jpg\" alt=\"Quran\" width=\"435\" height=\"261\" srcset=\"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Quran.jpg 435w, https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Quran-300x180.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 435px) 100vw, 435px\" \/><\/a>An Egyptian, Indonesian and Yemeni won the first three places in the first-ever Qur\u2019an memorization contest hosted by a Makkah radio station here recently.<br \/>\nEgypt\u2019s Ibrahim Shahta Ibrahim bagged the top prize, with Indonesia\u2019s Razi Ngosai in second and Yemen\u2019s Adanan Omar Habashi in third, in the competition broadcast on Radio Islam.<br \/>\nA total of 140 contestants from 54 countries took part in the contest held at the station\u2019s Jeddah offices.<br \/>\nAbdul Rahman Al-Hazza, chairman of the Saudi Broadcasting Corporation who was the chief guest, said the company aims to expand the competition in future.<br \/>\n\u201cSaudi Radio is carrying out the directives of the Kingdom\u2019s founders to spread the message of the Qur\u2019an and Sunnah,\u201d he said. The plan is to include the private sector in future contests, he said.<br \/>\nAl-Hazza said that the company has installed the latest sound system at the station, which is conducive for holding such events.<br \/>\nAbdul Rahman Qabaysi, director of Radio Islam, said that several women have asked if they could also participate in the contest by telephone next Ramadan. He said there would be \u201csignificant changes\u201d to the competition next year.<br \/>\nAbdullah Basafar, secretary general of the International Qur\u2019an Memorization Organization, said these competitions are not new to the Kingdom. He said the first such contest, the King Abdulaziz International Award for Qur\u2019an Memorization, was held 36 years ago. He said these events are held to inspire people with the message of the holy book.<br \/>\nThe jury, led by Abdualaziz Kaid, judged the performances of the contestants based on their Tajweed.<br \/>\nThe winner received SR15,000, second place SR7,000 and third place SR6,000. Those from fourth to tenth received SR1,000 each.<br \/>\nThe radio station broadcasts live and recorded recitals of the Holy Qur\u2019an, and other Islamic programs in the Kingdom and the region.
