Expectations are high since Rushnawara Ali became the first British Bangladeshi MP in the House of Commons in 2010.<br \/>\nAccording to the most recent census, the Bangladeshi community is incredibly under represented in the House of Commons and Lords.<br \/>\nTo celebrate the current British Bangladeshi politicians and encourage the new generation to get involved in mainstream politics, PRiDEA organised a &#8216;Meet Your Future MPs&#8217; event on the 25th of September 2014 at the Atrium in East London.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Pridea2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-2701\" src=\"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Pridea2.jpg\" alt=\"Pridea2\" width=\"619\" height=\"269\" srcset=\"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Pridea2.jpg 585w, https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Pridea2-300x130.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 619px) 100vw, 619px\" \/><\/a>Five British Bangladeshi MP Candidates from the Labour party attended: Rushanara Ali representing Bethnal Green and Bow, Tulip Siddiq representing Hampstead and Kilburn, Barrister Anawar Babul Miah representing Welwyn Hatfield, Rupa Hoque representing Ealing Central and Acton and Mina Rahman from the conservative party representing Barking and Dagenham. Several other MPs and Lords also attended the event.<br \/>\nMr Wazid Hassan Shelim, Chairman of PRiDEA said, \u201cThere is only one MP in the House of Commons who is representing more than half a million British Bangladeshis. I hope this event has made people aware that we need more British Bangladeshis involved in politics to represent their own community.\u201d<br \/>\nThe first session of the event was conducted by Urmee Mazhar.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Pridea3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-2702\" src=\"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Pridea3.jpg\" alt=\"Pridea3\" width=\"618\" height=\"387\" srcset=\"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Pridea3.jpg 532w, https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Pridea3-300x188.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 618px) 100vw, 618px\" \/><\/a>Pasha Khondakar \u2013 BCA president, Councilor Abdul Jabbar from Oldham delivered speeches amongst many others.<br \/>\nThe main attraction of the event was the debate held by the representatives of 3 Major Political parties and the civil society. The debate session was the first of its kind in the history of British Bangladeshi Community conducted by Talha Ahmed.<br \/>\nBaroness Thornton from Labour party, Phill Bennion from Liberal democrats, Baroness Uddin of Bethnal Green and Neil Jameson from Citizens UK participated in the debate.<br \/>\nThey all addressed the necessity of more involvement of the British Bangladeshi Community in the mainstream Politics.<br \/>\nSeveral people from the audience also asked several questions relating to immigration policies, opportunities in the mainstream politics and issues relating to Syria and Iraq.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Pridea4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-2703\" src=\"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Pridea4.jpg\" alt=\"Pridea4\" width=\"619\" height=\"185\" srcset=\"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Pridea4.jpg 696w, https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Pridea4-300x90.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 619px) 100vw, 619px\" \/><\/a>Baroness Uddin of Bethnal Green said, \u201cLabour party has advanced in securing representations from the BME communities and the other major parties yet to prove their sincerity towards the ethnic community.\u201d<br \/>\nProspective parliamentary candidate Mina Rahman said,\u201cMy selection from the conservative party proved that this party is not an elitist party, and if you have the ability to stand forward and represent your community, the conservative party will always be there to support you\u201d<br \/>\nRushanara Ali MP said,\u201cPRiDEA consistently championed the causes which benefit the community, in particular, connecting the younger generation within the community and beyond.
