Miscreants have set eleven buses on fire in the capital city on Tuesday, also the first day of the countrywide blockade imposed by the BNP for an indefinite period.
\nAnsar member Monowar Hossain received burn injuries on his face and wrists when a vehicle was torched near Kadamtali\u2019s Lalmasjid around 5:10am, said Md Abdus Salam Mia, officer-in-charge of Kadamtali Police Station.
\nA BRTC bus and a private care were torched outside Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha around 02:00pm.
\nFirefighters arrived on the scene but the vehicles burned down by then.
\nOfficer-in-charge of Motijheel Police Station Forman Ali visited the scene.
\nA passenger bus was set on fire at Tanti Bazar intersection in the afternoon.
\nSahajadi Sultana, a fire service official who was on duty, told\u00a0 four fighting units worked to douse the flame.
\nSub-inspector of Shahbagh Police Station Faruk said a bus of Shikhar Paribahan was set on fire in Shahbagh around 03:30pm.
\nA police vehicle was set ablaze in the morning near a mosque in Kadamtali.
\nAnsar member Monwar Hossain, 40, was injured in the fire and was sent to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
\nSub-inspector of Kadamtali Police Station Mizanur Rahman said the miscreants damaged the windshield of the vehicle before setting it ablaze.
\nHe said the attackers could not be identified.
\nMonwar received burn injuries in his face and two hands but doctors said he was out of danger, added the policeman.
\nBesides, two crude bombs were blasted outside the Awami League office at Natun Bazar, said Badda Police Station officer-in-charge Abdul Jalil.
\nOn Monday afternoon, BNP chief Begum Khaleda Zia called a non-stop blockade in the country after failing to get out of her Gulshan office.
\nThe blockade will continue until our demands are met, the BNP chairperson said while talking to reporters at her office.
\nMeanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatra Shibir activists on Tuesday attacked police near a police station in Rajshahi.
\nThe attack, which took place near Shah Makhdum Police Station around 10:00am, left two policemen injured.
\nRajshahi Metropolitan Police spokesperson Ifte Khayer Alam told a group of Jamaat and Shibir activists held a protest rally at Shah Makhdum Police Station intersection but they hurled bricks at police and blasted crude bombs when law enforcers went there.
\nThe two police officers fell to the ground and the activists assaulted them. They punched and kicked the policemen, and also hit the two with bricks in their heads, he said.<\/p>\n
