{"id":344,"date":"2013-09-30T21:45:55","date_gmt":"2013-09-30T21:45:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/?p=344"},"modified":"2013-09-30T21:45:55","modified_gmt":"2013-09-30T21:45:55","slug":"nepalese-man-claims-to-be-worlds-shortest-person","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/index.php\/nepalese-man-claims-to-be-worlds-shortest-person\/","title":{"rendered":"Nepalese man claims to be world\u2019s shortest person"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Nepal.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-345\" alt=\"Nepal\" src=\"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Nepal-300x181.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"181\" srcset=\"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Nepal-300x181.jpg 300w, https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Nepal.jpg 580w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>An elderly Nepalese man who is just 41 cm (16 inches) tall is stepping up his campaign to be recognized as the world\u2019s shortest person.<br \/>\nMaster Nau, 73, who is confined to a wheelchair, recently flew from his remote village southwest of the capital Katmandu to press his request to be recognized in the Guinness World Records.<br \/>\nWearing sunglasses and clutching his citizenship card, Nau was greeted at Katmandu airport by photographers and the media.<br \/>\nNow back home in Bhairahawa village, where he lives with his youngest brother\u2019s family, life has returned to normal.<br \/>\n\u201cI am very happy,\u201d Nau told AFP in a barely audible voice over the phone on Monday.<br \/>\nNau is staking his claim as the shortest person in an \u201cimmovable\u201d category, which according to the Guinness World Records recognizes a person who cannot walk.<br \/>\nHis rival, a Taiwanese man, who holds the current record in the category, stands 68 centimetres.<br \/>\nOfficials from Guinness World Records have said Nau could qualify for the record, according to world record enthusiast Thaneshwar Guragain, who has taken up Nau\u2019s claim and is corresponding with the organization.<br \/>\nNau\u2019s niece Seema Sheikh said he leads an active life.<br \/>\n\u201cHe is fond of traveling and likes to meet people and talk about life,\u201d Sheikh told AFP.<br \/>\n\u201cHe also likes hot and delicious food and loves to listen to Hindi and Nepali songs. We often hire a rickshaw to take him to the market because he loves it,\u201d she said.<br \/>\n\u201cBut whenever he goes out, people stop to look at him. Soon a small crowd would gather, which makes it difficult.\u201d<br \/>\nA fellow Nepalese man, Chandra Bahadur Dangi, 74, holds the current record for the world\u2019s shortest man in the \u201cmovable\u201d category.
