{"id":3951,"date":"2015-03-02T21:57:08","date_gmt":"2015-03-02T21:57:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/?p=3951"},"modified":"2015-03-02T21:57:08","modified_gmt":"2015-03-02T21:57:08","slug":"top-turkish-writer-kemal-dead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/index.php\/top-turkish-writer-kemal-dead\/","title":{"rendered":"Top Turkish writer Kemal dead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Turkish-writer-Kemal.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-3952\" src=\"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Turkish-writer-Kemal.jpg\" alt=\"Turkish writer Kemal\" width=\"253\" height=\"166\" \/><\/a>Yasar Kemal, one of Turkey\u2019s most prominent writers and a nominee for the Nobel Literature award, has died aged 92, state media said Saturday.<br \/>\nKemal died in an Istanbul hospital where he was being treated for pulmonary complications and cardiac arrhythmia since Jan. 14, the official Anatolia news agency said.<br \/>\nHis doctor told Turkish media that Kemal\u2019s health had rapidly deteriorated in the past week and that he died after complications including multiple organ failure.<br \/>\nKamal burst onto the world literary scene with his very first novel in 1955, \u201cMehmed the Hawk,\u201d which was translated into some 40 languages, earning him rapid international fame.<br \/>\nBorn in 1923 of Kurdish descent in Osmaniye in southern Turkey, he won numerous literary and human rights awards, including France\u2019s highest honor the Legion d\u2019Honneur and was nominated for the Nobel Literature Prize, an award many Turks believe he should have won.<br \/>\nKemal, of Kurdish descent, faced several trials in Turkey over his writings and his political activism, particularly his denunciation of brutal government crackdowns against the Kurds. He served time in prison.<br \/>\nPresident Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he had offered his condolences to Kemal\u2019s family and that he was \u201cdeeply saddened\u201d to hear of the death of the author.<br \/>\n\u201cThe sadness in our hearts is immense.
