\"Jeremy<\/a>Jeremy Clarkson\u2019s contract will not be renewed after an \u201cunprovoked physical attack\u201d on a Top Gear producer, the BBC\u2019s director general has confirmed.
\nTony Hall said he had \u201cnot taken this decision lightly\u201d and recognised it would \u201cdivide opinion\u201d.
\nHowever, he added \u201ca line has been crossed\u201d and he \u201ccannot condone what has happened on this occasion\u201d.
\nClarkson was suspended on 10 March, following what was called a \u201cfracas\u201d with Top Gear producer Oisin Tymon.
\nThe row, which took place in a Yorkshire hotel, was said to have occurred because no hot food was provided following a day\u2019s filming.
\nAn internal investigation began last week, led by Ken MacQuarrie, the director of BBC Scotland.
\nIt found that Mr Tymon took himself to hospital after he was subject to an \u201cunprovoked physical and verbal attack\u201d.
\n\u201cDuring the physical attack Oisin Tymon was struck, resulting in swelling and bleeding to his lip.\u201d
\nIt lasted \u201caround 30 seconds and was halted by the intervention of a witness,\u201d Mr MacQuarrie noted in his report.
\n\u201cThe verbal abuse was sustained over a longer period\u201d and \u201ccontained the strongest expletives and threats to sack\u201d Mr Tymon, who believed he had lost his job.<\/p>\n
