{"id":4256,"date":"2015-04-15T10:08:17","date_gmt":"2015-04-15T10:08:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/?p=4256"},"modified":"2015-04-15T10:09:01","modified_gmt":"2015-04-15T10:09:01","slug":"i-am-ready-to-lead-better-britain-miliband","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/index.php\/i-am-ready-to-lead-better-britain-miliband\/","title":{"rendered":"I Am Ready To Lead Better Britain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Ed-Miliband.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4257\" src=\"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Ed-Miliband.jpg\" alt=\"Ed Miliband\" width=\"403\" height=\"251\" srcset=\"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Ed-Miliband.jpg 403w, https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Ed-Miliband-300x187.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 403px) 100vw, 403px\" \/><\/a>Ed Miliband has attempted to convince voters he can be trusted with the economy pledging to cut the deficit year on year and saying: \u201cI am ready\u201d to lead the country.<br \/>\nThe Labour leader promised to get the Budget back into surplus \u201cas soon as possible\u201d with a programme that would be independently vetted by the Office for Budget Responsibility.<br \/>\nThe manifesto, launched by Mr Miliband on the set of Coronation Street and titled Britain Can Be Better, promised to \u201csecure the family finances of the working people of Britain\u201d.<br \/>\nMr Miliband opened his speech by saying Britain could be better but said \u201crebuilding\u201d the country would not be easy and it would \u201crequire change\u201d.<br \/>\nHe said the manifesto was not a \u201cshopping list of proposals\u201d he said it started with a clear commitment to balance the books and would not stop there.<br \/>\nMr Miliband attempted to persuade a sceptical public he could be trusted with the economy by introducing a \u201ctriple lock\u201d of responsibility.<br \/>\nHe said a Labour Government would: cut the deficit every year, that every measure contained in the manifesto was fully funded and Labour would meet fiscal rules with the national debt falling.<br \/>\nMr Miliband attempted to capitalise on the Conservatives\u2019 refusal to spell out how they would find the extra \u00a38bn of funding for the NHS saying: \u201cNothing is more dangerous to our NHS than pretending you\u2019ll be able to protect it without being able to say where the money\u2019s coming from. You can\u2019t fund the NHS with an IOU and the Conservative Party need to learn that.\u201d<br \/>\nWrap around childcare \u2013 primary schools forced to provide care from 8am-6pm<br \/>\nRaise minimum wage to \u00a38 an hour<br \/>\nAbolish non-dom rules, abolish zero-hour contracts<br \/>\n\u00a32.5bn Time to Care fund for NHS off back of mansion tax and tobacco firm levy<br \/>\nIncrease income tax for those earning more than \u00a3150,000<br \/>\nReintroduce the 10p starting rate of income tax<br \/>\nScrap winter fuel allowance for pensioners with an income of more than \u00a342,000 a year<br \/>\nTighten tax avoidance rules to yield \u00a37.5bn a year<br \/>\nScrap Married Couple\u2019s Allowance<br \/>\nCap child benefit at 1%<br \/>\nCut tuition fees to \u00a36,000<br \/>\nMore powers for the Welsh and Scottish Parliament<br \/>\nExtend the vote to 16-year-olds<br \/>\nMr Miliband said: \u201cThe reason we can make these commitments is because we will make sure those with the broadest shoulders bear the greatest burden.<br \/>\n\u201cSo we\u2019ll reverse David Cameron\u2019s tax cut for millionaires to help pay down the deficit, we\u2019ll crack down on hedge funds who avoid paying their fair share, we\u2019ll stop HMRC operating double standards and we\u2019ll do something that no government has done for over 200 years, we\u2019ll say enough is enough to the people who live here, work here, send their kids to school here but don\u2019t want to pay taxes here and we will abolish the non-dom rule.\u201d<br \/>\nPolls\u00a0 show that voters trust Labour less with the economy than the Conservatives and Mr Miliband has struggled to play down forgetting to mention the deficit in his conference speech.<br \/>\nIn the manifesto Labour vows only to eliminate the deficit as soon as possible while the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats have said they will do so by 2017\/18.<br \/>\nIn an answer to recent criticism that Labour is against big business and wealth-creators, Mr Miliband said Labour was \u201cpro business but not pro business as usual\u201d.<br \/>\nHe said Labour would champion small and medium sized businesses with a cut in business rates to help them create the jobs, wealth and profits of the future.<br \/>\nAnd he pledged to keep Britain in the European Union \u2013 admitting it did need change but stressing Labour would work to stay within it.<br \/>\nMr Miliband said he would champion the little man against the giant energy firms and painted himself as the man who would stand up for the little people against the powerful interests.<br \/>\nMr Miliband was speaking inside the building used in the long-running soap as Weatherfield Police Station.<br \/>\nSky\u2019s Political Correspondent Sophy Ridge said the decision to use the set could be seen as a metaphor for \u201chard-working, or ordinary, families\u201d or could even be a knowing nod to the idea of a \u201cpolitical soap opera\u201d.<br \/>\nThe first page of the manifesto says: \u201cA Labour government will cut the deficit every year. The first line of Labour\u2019s first Budget will be: \u2018This Budget cuts the deficit every year\u2019.
