{"id":4294,"date":"2015-04-23T16:06:05","date_gmt":"2015-04-23T16:06:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/?p=4294"},"modified":"2015-04-23T16:06:05","modified_gmt":"2015-04-23T16:06:05","slug":"obamas-grandmother-visits-makkah","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/index.php\/obamas-grandmother-visits-makkah\/","title":{"rendered":"Obama\u2019s grandmother visits Makkah"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Obamas-Grand-Mother.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4295\" src=\"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Obamas-Grand-Mother.jpg\" alt=\"Obamas Grand Mother\" width=\"293\" height=\"221\" \/><\/a>Paternal grandmother of U.S. President Barack Obama attended an exhibition detailing the life of the Prophet Mohammad at the end of a pilgrimage in the Saudi city of Makkah, local media reported Wednesday.<br \/>\nSara Omar, who is in her 90s, arrived in Makkah &#8211; considered in Islam to be the holiest city &#8211; with her son and grandson Saeed and Mousa Obama.<br \/>\nUnlike the Hajj pilgrimage &#8211; a trip to the cities of Makkah and Madinah which every able-bodied Muslim is expected to undertake at least once in their lifetime &#8211; Umrah can be undertaken at any time of the year.<br \/>\nAfter finishing Umrah, Omar visited an exhibition about the life of the Prophet, commenting that it was a \u201cgood example\u201d of what she called the moderate teachings of Islam.<br \/>\n\u201cI am very happy to visit this exhibition, which is a good example for the propagation of Islam in a modern way, supported by scientific and authentic documents,\u201d local daily Arab News quoted her as saying.<br \/>\nThe Arabic-language Akhbar meanwhile said Obama\u2019s grandmother cried during her visit to the exhibition.<br \/>\nObama is a Christian whose religious views developed in his adult life but his father is of Muslim heritage from Kenya.
