{"id":4320,"date":"2015-05-01T14:46:30","date_gmt":"2015-05-01T14:46:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/?p=4320"},"modified":"2015-05-01T14:46:30","modified_gmt":"2015-05-01T14:46:30","slug":"uk-medical-students-become-is-doctors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/index.php\/uk-medical-students-become-is-doctors\/","title":{"rendered":"UK medical students \u2018become IS doctors\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IS-Doctor.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4321\" src=\"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IS-Doctor.jpg\" alt=\"IS Doctor\" width=\"377\" height=\"211\" srcset=\"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IS-Doctor.jpg 377w, https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IS-Doctor-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 377px) 100vw, 377px\" \/><\/a>A group of British medical students of Sudanese origin who went missing after traveling to Turkey are feared to have crossed into Syria to join the Islamic State (IS) group as doctors, reports and sources said on Sunday.<br \/>\nThe families of the students have traveled to the Turkey-Syria border in a desperate appeal for them to return home before it is too late, a Turkish opposition MP said.<br \/>\nAccording to reports in Britain\u2019s The Guardian newspaper and the BBC, nine young students flew to Istanbul from the Sudanese capital Khartoum on March 12 and then overland by bus toward Syria.<br \/>\nThey have been joined by two other medics from the US and Canada, also of Sudanese origin, the BBC said.<br \/>\nA Turkish MP from the Republican People\u2019s Party (CHP) Mehmet Ali Ediboglu, who represents the Hatay region bordering Syria, wrote on his Facebook page that he was helping the families in their search.<br \/>\n\u201cEleven doctors \u2014 nine British and two Sudanese \u2014 came to Turkey a week ago to join the IS,\u201d he said.<br \/>\n\u201cThe families of the young people have been in Turkey to search for them and bring them back,\u201d he added.<br \/>\n\u201cOur greatest hope is to save the doctors from the IS and reunite them with their families.\u201d<br \/>\nAhmed Babikir, students\u2019 dean at Khartoum\u2019s private University of Medical Sciences, told AFP that five students of the university were missing after traveling to Turkey.<br \/>\n\u201cThey all have British passports and are of Sudanese origin,\u201d he said.<br \/>\n\u201cTheir families have traveled after them to stop them from joining IS.
