{"id":4542,"date":"2015-05-28T21:56:11","date_gmt":"2015-05-28T20:56:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/?p=4542"},"modified":"2015-05-28T21:56:11","modified_gmt":"2015-05-28T20:56:11","slug":"un-to-honour-126-peacekeepers-including-8-bangladeshis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/index.php\/un-to-honour-126-peacekeepers-including-8-bangladeshis\/","title":{"rendered":"UN to honour 126 peacekeepers including 8 Bangladeshis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/UN.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4543\" src=\"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/UN.jpg\" alt=\"UN\" width=\"285\" height=\"177\" \/><\/a>The United Nations (UN) will honour 126 \u2018blue helmets\u2019, including eight Bangladeshis who lost their lives the previous year while serving the cause of peace.<br \/>\nThe commemorative activities will be held at UN Headquarters in New York on Friday, 29th May and at peacekeeping operations and offices around the world.<br \/>\nThe 126 peacekeepers from police and armed forces from different countries and civilian recruits who lost their lives in 2014 while serving with the UN as a result of hostile acts, accidents and disease, will posthumously receive the Dag Hammarskjold Medal at a ceremony at the UN Headquarters.<br \/>\nAmong the deceased peacekeepers, eight are from Bangladesh. Lt Col Md Tauhid-ul Mulk and Sergeant Md Shahidul Islam who served with the UN peacekeeping operation in Cote d\u2019Ivoire, LS Mohammad Jahangir Alam and Sergeant Md Miragul Islam who were deployed to Mali, Private Amir Hossain, Sergeant Md Labu Islam and Private Mohammad Abdul Matin who served in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Lance Cpl Md Abdur Razzaq who served in Liberia.<br \/>\nBangladesh is the largest contributor of military and police personnel to the UN peacekeeping.
