{"id":47876,"date":"2018-08-30T17:17:31","date_gmt":"2018-08-30T16:17:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/?p=47876"},"modified":"2018-08-30T17:17:31","modified_gmt":"2018-08-30T16:17:31","slug":"bimstec-ministers-agree-on-projects-worth-50-billion-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/index.php\/bimstec-ministers-agree-on-projects-worth-50-billion-2\/","title":{"rendered":"BIMSTEC ministers agree on projects worth $50 billion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-47874\" src=\"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/BIMSTEC.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"321\" height=\"157\" srcset=\"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/BIMSTEC.jpg 321w, https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/BIMSTEC-300x147.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 321px) 100vw, 321px\" \/>In an ambitious plan to connect the member states of Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), foreign ministers from the seven-nation group identified and agreed to push forward 167 various connectivity-related projects at an estimated cost of $50 billion, reports the Kathmandu Post.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Following a detailed study by the Asian Development Bank, the ministers agreed to approve the projects, at least in principle.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The member states are developing BimstecTransport Connectivity Master Plan, with a goal to complete it by the end of September 2018, Nepalese Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali told the Nepalese daily.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSeveral multilateral donor agencies are interested to put money in this master plan,\u201d Gyawali said, adding that the cooperation has attracted the ADB, World Bank and other multilateral agencies to push these projects.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The ADB study included transportation and cross-border facilitation, multimodal transport and logistics, infrastructure development, aviation, maritime transport, human resources development, as well as communication linkages and networking.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Bimstec Transport Infrastructure and Logistic Study (BTILS) was updated by the ADB in 2014.
