After almost 20 years in European and British politics, this is an exciting new adventure for me,&#8221; Clegg wrote on his Facebook page.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Clegg said Facebook was &#8220;at the heart of some of the most complex and difficult questions we face&#8221; such as &#8220;privacy of the individual&#8221;, &#8220;integrity of our democratic process&#8221;, and &#8220;the balance between free speech and prohibited content&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;I believe that Facebook must continue to play a role in finding answers to those questions &#8211; not by acting alone in Silicon Valley, but by working with people, organisations, governments and regulators around the world to ensure that technology is a force for good.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;I am looking forward to being part of this endeavour,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"alignleft quote-simple \"><p><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script> <!-- Automatic size Responsive --> <ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-1234237307185872\" data-ad-slot=\"7381563475\" data-ad-format=\"auto\" data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins> <script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Press Association news agency and the Financial Times said Clegg would be Facebook&#8217;s new head of global affairs and communications and would move to California in January.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The 51-year-old is also a former European Commission trade negotiator and member of the European Parliament.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Clegg used to be head of the Liberal Democrats, a small opposition party, but was voted out of parliament in a 2017 election when the party suffered major setbacks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The former politician has pushed for a second referendum that could stop Brexit but the proposal has been ruled out by Prime Minister Theresa May.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">His most recent book is entitled: &#8220;How to Stop Brexit (And Make Britain Great Again)&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;As someone who has spent a lifetime arguing for Britain&#8217;s wholehearted commitment to Europe, it is of course a wrench to be leaving the public debate at a crucial time in the Brexit process,&#8221; Clegg wrote on Friday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;But the key decisions will soon pass to Parliament, of which I am no longer a Member, and once I had decided to take up this unique new challenge at Facebook, I felt it was best to get going sooner rather than later,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Clegg speaks Dutch, French, German and Spanish, and joined the government after a 2010 election campaign characterised by &#8220;Cleggmania&#8221; over his superior performance in television debates.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He was badly damaged, however, by going back on a promise not to raise university tuition fees once in government.<\/p>\n<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\r\n<script>(function(d, s, id) {\r\n  var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];\r\n  if (d.getElementById(id)) return;\r\n  js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id;\r\n  js.src = \"\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_GB\/all.js#xfbml=1\";\r\n  fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);\r\n}(document, \"script\", \"facebook-jssdk\"));<\/script>\r\n <fb:comments href=\"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/index.php\/facebook-hires-british-ex-deputy-pm-as-global-affairs-head\/\" font=\"arial\" num_posts=\"\" width=\"\" height=\"\" colorscheme=\"light\"  style=\"background:#FFFFFF;padding-top:0px;\r\npadding-right:0px;\r\npadding-bottom:0px;\r\npadding-left:0px;\r\nmargin-top:0px;\r\nmargin-right:0px;\r\nmargin-bottom:0px;\r\nmargin-left:0px;\r\n\"><\/fb:comments>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>British former deputy prime minister Nick Clegg, a leading anti-Brexit advocate, said on Friday he would be starting a job at Facebook, as the US giant faces up to regulatory pressures. &#8220;I am delighted to be joining Facebook.
