{"id":49187,"date":"2019-07-08T10:29:04","date_gmt":"2019-07-08T09:29:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/?p=49187"},"modified":"2019-07-08T10:35:51","modified_gmt":"2019-07-08T09:35:51","slug":"british-airways-fined-183m-for-data-breach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/index.php\/british-airways-fined-183m-for-data-breach\/","title":{"rendered":"British Airways fined \u00a3183m for data breach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-5581\" src=\"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/British-Air.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"808\" height=\"485\" \/>British Airways has been fined more than \u00a3183 million after computer hackers last year stole bank details from hundreds of thousands of passengers, its parent group IAG said Monday.<br \/>\nIn a statement, IAG said the UK Information Commissioner\u2019s Office intends to issue the airline with a penalty notice under the UK Data Protection Act, totalling \u00a3183.39 million ($229.7 million, 205 million euros).<br \/>\nThe fine is equivalent to 1.5 percent of British Airways\u2019 turnover in 2017, IAG added.<br \/>\nIAG chief executive Willie Walsh said it would consider appealing the fine as it seeks \u201cto take all appropriate steps to defend the airline\u2019s position vigorously.\u201d<br \/>\nBA\u2019s CEO Alex Cruz said the airline was \u201csurprised and disappointed\u201d by the punishment.<br \/>\n\u201cBritish Airways responded quickly to a criminal act to steal customers\u2019 data,\u201d he said in the statement.<br \/>\n\u201cWe have found no evidence of fraud\/fraudulent activity on accounts linked to the theft.
