{"id":529,"date":"2012-11-20T10:58:15","date_gmt":"2012-11-20T10:58:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/?p=529"},"modified":"2013-11-20T17:19:31","modified_gmt":"2013-11-20T17:19:31","slug":"sadin-kaaba-key-keeper-keeping-tradition-alive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/index.php\/sadin-kaaba-key-keeper-keeping-tradition-alive\/","title":{"rendered":"Sadin, Kaaba key keeper keeping tradition alive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Sadin-Nizar-Al-Shaibi.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-530\" alt=\"Sadin Nizar Al-Shaibi\" src=\"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Sadin-Nizar-Al-Shaibi-300x181.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"181\" srcset=\"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Sadin-Nizar-Al-Shaibi-300x181.jpg 300w, https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Sadin-Nizar-Al-Shaibi.jpg 580w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Since Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) handed over the key to the Kaaba to Othman bin Talha, the prophet\u2019s companion\u2019s lineage sons have been inheriting it and the title Sadin of the Kaaba until today.<br \/>\nThe Sadin is the keeper of the Kaaba\u2019s key.<br \/>\n\u201cSadins are originally members of the Al-Shaibi family whose history can be traced to pre-Islamic period,\u201d said Sadin Nizar Al-Shaibi.<br \/>\nThe family\u2019s history in key keeping goes back to the days of Prophet Ibrahim, peace be upon him, according to Al-Shaibi.<br \/>\n\u201cDuring the days of Prophet Muhammad, his companion Abdullah bin Abbas, who was responsible for Zamzam water, asked the Prophet to assign Kaaba key-keeping to him,\u201d he said, \u201cbut the prophet told him that in Surah An Nisa, Allah ordered us to return the trusts to those to whom they are due (All\u00e2h commands that you should render back the trusts to those to whom they are due), and then he took the key to our grandfather Talha.<br \/>\nUsually the key is with the senior Sadin who is currently Shiekh Abdulqader Al-Shaibi. The key is used twice a year: once in the month of Muharram and the second is in the first day of the month of Sha\u2019ban.<br \/>\n\u201cIn the past the Kaaba was opened twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays. Now it is opened only twice a year for washing it and this would be done in an Islamic ceremony and in the presence of a large number of officials and Islamic countries ambassadors and consuls and guests of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques,\u201d he said.
