{"id":5430,"date":"2015-07-25T11:33:29","date_gmt":"2015-07-25T10:33:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/?p=5430"},"modified":"2015-07-25T11:33:29","modified_gmt":"2015-07-25T10:33:29","slug":"jolie-to-direct-film-on-cambodian-war","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/index.php\/jolie-to-direct-film-on-cambodian-war\/","title":{"rendered":"Jolie to direct film on Cambodian war"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Angelina-Jolie.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2463\" src=\"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Angelina-Jolie.jpg\" alt=\"Angelina Jolie\" width=\"259\" height=\"194\" \/><\/a>Actress-turned-director Angelina Jolie is to make a film about Cambodia\u2019s Khmer Rouge regime seen through the eyes of a war-scarred child for Netflix, the streaming giant said Thursday.<br \/>\nThe Oscar-winning Hollywood A-lister will adapt \u201cFirst They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers,\u201d a harrowing memoir by Cambodian human rights activist Loung Ung about surviving the deadly regime.<br \/>\n\u201cI was deeply affected by Loung\u2019s book,\u201d said Jolie, cited in a Netflix statement. \u201cIt deepened forever my understanding of how children experience war and are affected by the emotional memory of it.<br \/>\n\u201cAnd it helped me draw closer still to the people of Cambodia, my son\u2019s homeland,\u201d said the 40-year-old, speaking of Maddox, her adopted son with megastar husband Brad Pitt.<br \/>\nNetflix said Maddox Jolie-Pitt, 13, the Hollywood couple\u2019s eldest child, will be involved in the production.<br \/>\nJolie will direct and produce the film from a script she co-wrote with Ung. Acclaimed Cambodian director Rithy Panh, nominated for an Oscar for 2013\u2019s \u201cThe Missing Picture,\u201d will also serve as a producer.<br \/>\nNetflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said: \u201cWe are proud to be working with Angelina Jolie in bringing this emotionally powerful and ultimately uplifting story exclusively to Netflix members around the world.<br \/>\n\u201cLoung Ung\u2019s incredible journey is a testament to the human spirit and its ability to transcend even the toughest circumstances,\u201d he added.<br \/>\nThe movie will be released on Netflix in late 2016.<br \/>\nJolie\u2019s feature film debut was 2011\u2019s \u201cIn the Land of Blood and Honey\u201d set in the Bosnian war.
