{"id":5512,"date":"2015-07-30T16:58:30","date_gmt":"2015-07-30T15:58:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/?p=5512"},"modified":"2015-07-30T16:58:30","modified_gmt":"2015-07-30T15:58:30","slug":"2015-man-booker-long-list-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/index.php\/2015-man-booker-long-list-announced\/","title":{"rendered":"2015 Man Booker long list announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/2015-Man-Booker-long-list-announced.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-5513\" src=\"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/2015-Man-Booker-long-list-announced.jpg\" alt=\"2015 Man Booker long list announced\" width=\"289\" height=\"174\" \/><\/a>The long list of 13 titles for the 2015 Man Booker Prize for fiction written in English, published on Wednesday, features the first Jamaican author in contention for the 50,000-pound ($78,000) prize.<br \/>\nMarlon James is nominated for his third novel, \u201cA Brief History of Seven Killings,\u201d the story of the attempted assassination of reggae singer Bob Marley and its aftermath in the Jamaica of the 1970s and early 80s.<br \/>\nAlso in contention are 2007 winner Anne Enright and writers from Nigeria, India, New Zealand, Ireland, the US and Britain.<br \/>\nThe list will be whittled down to six on Sept. 15 and the winner will be announced on Oct. 13 in London\u2019s Guildhall.<br \/>\nFirst awarded in 1969, the prize\u2019s list of previous winners features many of the literary giants of the last four decades, from Salman Rushdie and Hilary Mantel to Iris Murdoch and Ian McEwan.<br \/>\nThe rules of the prize changed in 2013 to open it to writers beyond Britain and the Commonwealth.
