{"id":6612,"date":"2016-05-14T12:44:21","date_gmt":"2016-05-14T11:44:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/?p=6612"},"modified":"2016-05-14T12:44:21","modified_gmt":"2016-05-14T11:44:21","slug":"camden-appoints-its-first-female-muslim-mayor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/index.php\/camden-appoints-its-first-female-muslim-mayor\/","title":{"rendered":"Camden appoints its first female Muslim mayor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6613 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Nadia.jpg\" alt=\"Nadia\" width=\"289\" height=\"175\" \/>The London borough of Camden has appointed its first female Muslim mayor of Bangladeshi heritage.<br \/>\nCouncillor Nadia Shah has been officially appointed as the new Mayor of Camden in a ceremony at Camden Town Hall earlier this week.<br \/>\nCouncillor Shah, who represents Regent\u2019s Park ward, succeeds outgoing Mayor, Councillor Larraine Revah, as Camden\u2019s new Mayor for 2016\/17.<br \/>\nCouncillor Shah is of Bangladeshi heritage but was born and raised in Camden.<br \/>\nAs a teenager she volunteered with young people in the borough, and she has since managed projects helping people with drug issues, managed a community centre, and has been a social worker.<br \/>\nMayor of Camden Councillor Nadia Shah said: \u201cI went to school in Camden and I\u2019ve worked here for all of my working life and am very proud to take on the role of Mayor of Camden.<br \/>\n\u201cMy work has given me an insight into the struggles that people face in their lives, and the support needed for them to flourish. I\u2019m passionate about helping people to get the most out of life \u2013 from basic rights, to enabling opportunity and equality.<br \/>\n\u201cOver the years I have worked with a number of organisations in Camden to improve access to services for the less able, disadvantaged and vulnerable.
