{"id":6850,"date":"2017-01-22T09:57:12","date_gmt":"2017-01-22T09:57:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/?p=6850"},"modified":"2017-01-22T09:57:12","modified_gmt":"2017-01-22T09:57:12","slug":"western-union-agrees-to-pay-586m-for-fraud-victims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/index.php\/western-union-agrees-to-pay-586m-for-fraud-victims\/","title":{"rendered":"Western Union agrees to pay $586m for fraud victims"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-6851\" src=\"http:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Western-Union.jpg\" alt=\"Western Union\" width=\"295\" height=\"171\" \/>Western Union has agreed to pay $586 million to the US government to pay back victims of fraud that the money transfer company failed to protect.<br \/>\nThe government said Thursday that Western Union did not have a strong enough anti-fraud program, allowing scammers to use its money-transfer services to rip off customers.<br \/>\nIn one such scam, fraudsters would contact people to trick them into thinking they won a foreign lottery and asked them to send money through Western Union to retrieve their prize.<br \/>\nThe Federal Trade Commission (FTC) said in a complaint that Western Union received more than 550,000 complaints between 2004 and 2015 about scam-related money transfers that totaled more than $630 million.
