{"id":7190,"date":"2017-12-07T17:48:18","date_gmt":"2017-12-07T17:48:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/?p=7190"},"modified":"2017-12-07T17:48:18","modified_gmt":"2017-12-07T17:48:18","slug":"arabic-countries-denounce-us-jerusalem-move","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/index.php\/arabic-countries-denounce-us-jerusalem-move\/","title":{"rendered":"Arabic countries denounce US Jerusalem move"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-5346\" src=\"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/AlAqsa.jpg\" alt=\"AlAqsa\" width=\"358\" height=\"251\" srcset=\"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/AlAqsa.jpg 412w, https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/AlAqsa-300x210.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 358px) 100vw, 358px\" \/>U.S. President Donald Trump\u2019s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel\u2019s capital drew reaction from Arabic countries late Wednesday.<br \/>\n<strong>&#8211; Qatar<\/strong><br \/>\nQatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdurrahman Al-Sani called the decision a &#8216;death sentence for peace&#8217;.<br \/>\nSpeaking to Doha-based Al Jazeera television, Al-Sani said that this incident, which means a serious tension raise in the Palestinian cause, concerns not only the Palestinian people but all Arabs and Muslims.<br \/>\n<strong>&#8211; Lebanon<\/strong><br \/>\nLebanon\u2019s Prime Minister Saad Hariri and Ministry of Foreign Affairs also denounced Trump\u2019s move on Jerusalem.<br \/>\nHariri said on his Twitter account that Lebanon deplores and rejects the decision, and it is in solidarity with the Palestinian people.<br \/>\n\u201c[Lebanon announces] their [Palestinian\u2019s] right to the creation of an independent state whose capital is Jerusalem,\u201d he added.<br \/>\nLebanese President Michel Aoun also reacted to the decision with a written statement from the press office.<br \/>\n&#8220;The U.S. president&#8217;s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel threatens the peace process and the stability in the region. The Arab countries must be in unity against it.&#8221;<br \/>\n<strong>&#8211; Egypt<\/strong><br \/>\nEgypt\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also deplored the Jerusalem decision of the U.S. with a written statement.<br \/>\n\u201cEgypt condemns the U.S.\u2019 decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and to move its ambassador to Jerusalem. Such unilateral steps contrary to international agreements will not change the legal status of Jerusalem as it is under occupation.\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>&#8211; Jordan<\/strong><br \/>\nJordan\u2019s government spokesman Mohammad al-Momani said in a written statement that his country reject the decision.<br \/>\n\u201cThe international legitimacy emphasizes that the status of Jerusalem will be negotiated and agreed upon by agreement,\u201d he said, adding that the U.S. is violating international legitimate decisions with this step.<br \/>\n<strong>&#8211; Bahrain<\/strong><br \/>\nBahrain\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a written statement which says the decision threatens the peace process in the Middle East.<br \/>\nIt also said that the U.S. step is a clear violation of international decisions regarding Jerusalem\u2019s occupied status and the end of the occupation.<br \/>\n<strong>&#8211; Algeria<\/strong><br \/>\nAlgeria\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also denounced the move and warned the U.S. saying that this is a dangerous step.<br \/>\nThe statement urged the Islamic world and international society to take action to protect the Palestinian people\u2019s national rights and Jerusalem\u2019s status.<br \/>\n<strong>&#8211; Tunisia<\/strong><br \/>\nTunisia\u2019s Ennahda movement also stressed that the decision is a violation of international decisions.<br \/>\nIn a written statement, the movement called the U.S. authority to reverse its decision and also called its people for a support protest to Palestine in the country\u2019s capital Tunis\u2019 Mohamed Ali Square.<br \/>\n<strong>&#8211; Kuwait<\/strong><br \/>\nAccording to KUNA, the official agency of Kuwait, Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned the U.S. president about the decision\u2019s dangerous reflections and urged him to reverse the move.<br \/>\n<strong>&#8211; Saudi Arabia<\/strong><br \/>\nSaudi Arabia\u2019s Royal Council also strongly condemned the decision with a written statement.<br \/>\nThe statement emphasized that the decision would not change the Palestinian people\u2019s rights over Jerusalem and other occupied territories, and imposing a new status on Jerusalem was not possible.<br \/>\nEarlier Wednesday, Trump announced his decision despite widespread international opposition to formally recognize Jerusalem as Israel\u2019s capital.<br \/>\nJerusalem remains at the core of the Israel-Palestine conflict, with Palestinians hoping that East Jerusalem &#8212; now occupied by Israel &#8212; might eventually serve as the capital of a future Palestinian state.<br \/>\nDuring his election campaign last year, Trump repeatedly promised to relocate the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.<\/p>\n<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\r\n<script>(function(d, s, id) {\r\n  var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];\r\n  if (d.getElementById(id)) return;\r\n  js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id;\r\n  js.src = \"\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_GB\/all.js#xfbml=1\";\r\n  fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);\r\n}(document, \"script\", \"facebook-jssdk\"));<\/script>\r\n <fb:comments href=\"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/index.php\/arabic-countries-denounce-us-jerusalem-move\/\" font=\"arial\" num_posts=\"\" width=\"\" height=\"\" colorscheme=\"light\"  style=\"background:#FFFFFF;padding-top:0px;\r\npadding-right:0px;\r\npadding-bottom:0px;\r\npadding-left:0px;\r\nmargin-top:0px;\r\nmargin-right:0px;\r\nmargin-bottom:0px;\r\nmargin-left:0px;\r\n\"><\/fb:comments>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>U.S. President Donald Trump\u2019s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel\u2019s capital drew reaction from Arabic countries late Wednesday. &#8211; Qatar Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdurrahman Al-Sani called the decision a &#8216;death sentence for peace&#8217;.
