{"id":7844,"date":"2018-03-29T12:35:29","date_gmt":"2018-03-29T11:35:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/?p=7844"},"modified":"2018-03-29T12:35:29","modified_gmt":"2018-03-29T11:35:29","slug":"ill-keep-uk-united-after-brexit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/index.php\/ill-keep-uk-united-after-brexit\/","title":{"rendered":"I\u2019ll keep UK united after Brexit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-7284\" src=\"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Teresa.jpg\" alt=\"Teresa\" width=\"267\" height=\"189\" \/>Theresa May has pledged to keep the UK \u201cstrong and united\u201d after Brexit as she marks a year to go until the UK\u2019s departure from the European Union.<br \/>\nThe PM is to visit England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, appealing to those for and against Brexit.<br \/>\nThere are just months left to strike a deal on the future UK-EU relationship.<br \/>\nAnd, with the Irish border remaining a sticking point, Mrs May will promise to ensure \u201cno new barriers are created within our common domestic market\u201d.<br \/>\nSince formal negotiations began between the two sides last June, an agreement has been struck on a Brexit \u201cdivorce bill\u201d \u2013 but the crucial issue of how they will trade together has yet to be settled.<br \/>\nOn 29 March 2019, the UK will formally leave the EU and is due to enter a 21-month transition period during which much of the current arrangements continue, before the final permanent post-membership relationship is due to kick-in.<br \/>\nBut first, the PM must agree a deal in Parliament, with a vote expected in October.<br \/>\nOn Wednesday, shadow foreign secretary Emily Thornberry faced criticism from within her own party for saying Labour MPs would probably approve the government\u2019s \u201cblah, blah, blah\u201d deal that would pass Labour\u2019s six tests \u2013 which include maintaining the benefits of the single market and customs union.<br \/>\nShadow chancellor John McDonnell defended Ms Thornberry\u2019s comments, emphasising her \u201csarcasm\u201d in response to a journalist\u2019s question.<br \/>\nHe told BBC Radio 4\u2019s Today programme the tests were \u201cnowhere near being met\u201d and insisted Labour would not vote for the deal unless \u201cthe government are sensible and they negotiate properly\u2026 [so we can] get a deal that meets the six tests\u201d.<br \/>\n\u201cWe\u2019re saying to them get serious now, get down to the detail.\u201d<br \/>\nMeanwhile, speaking to the Independent, ex-PM Tony Blair has urged MPs to vote \u201caccording to what they genuinely believe\u201d, even if it means defying their party.<br \/>\nOn Thursday, Mrs May will visit a textile factory in Ayrshire, a parent and toddler group in Newcastle, have lunch with farmers near Belfast before meeting businesses in Barry, south Wales.<br \/>\nSpeaking ahead of her trip, Mrs May vowed to regain control of \u201cour laws, our borders and our money\u201d and that the UK will \u201cthrive as a strong and united country that works for everyone, no matter whether you voted Leave or Remain\u201d.<br \/>\nThe prime minister has been accused of a power grab by the Scottish and Welsh governments over plans to repatriate some powers from Brussels to Westminster rather than to the devolved administrations.<br \/>\nShe insisted each of the devolved administrations would see \u201can increase in their decision-making powers\u201d and that her government remained \u201cabsolutely committed\u201d to the devolution settlements.<br \/>\nThe PM also promised to \u201cprotect the integrity of the United Kingdom as a whole\u201d, restating her opposition to a controversial EU proposal to keep Northern Ireland inside its customs union.<br \/>\n\u201cThat means ensuring that no new barriers are created within our common domestic market and that the UK is able to meet its international obligations in the future.<br \/>\n\u201cNo prime minister could leave these things to chance, because they are absolutely crucial to our success as a country in the future.\u201d <em>-BBC<\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\r\n<script>(function(d, s, id) {\r\n  var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];\r\n  if (d.getElementById(id)) return;\r\n  js = d.createElement(s);
