{"id":8002,"date":"2018-04-20T20:04:09","date_gmt":"2018-04-20T19:04:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/?p=8002"},"modified":"2018-04-20T20:04:09","modified_gmt":"2018-04-20T19:04:09","slug":"prince-charles-to-be-next-commonwealth-head","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/index.php\/prince-charles-to-be-next-commonwealth-head\/","title":{"rendered":"Prince Charles to be next Commonwealth head"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4113\" src=\"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Prince-Charles.jpg\" alt=\"Prince Charles\" width=\"289\" height=\"174\" \/>Britain\u2019s Queen Elizabeth said on Thursday she hoped her son and heir Prince Charles would take on leadership of the Commonwealth, answering some who argue the position should be rotated around member states.<br \/>\n\u201cIt is my sincere wish that the Commonwealth will continue to offer stability and continuity for future generations and will decide that one day the Prince of Wales should carry on the important work started by my father in 1949,\u201d the queen said at the formal opening of the Commonwealth heads of Government Meeting.<br \/>\nThe meeting, taking place in Britain for the first time in 20 years, is seen as a chance to reconnect with former British colonies and revitalize the loose alliance of 53 Commonwealth countries ahead of Brexit.<br \/>\nThe Commonwealth evolved out of the British empire in the mid-20th century, and the Queen has been its head since her reign began in 1952.<br \/>\nThe question of who will follow Britain\u2019s 91 year-old monarch into the role was raised in the run up to the summit. The leader of Britain\u2019s opposition party suggested on Sunday the position should be rotated around the members.<br \/>\nPrime minister Theresa May also spoke at the opening ceremony and paid glowing tribute to the queen\u2019s \u201cservice, dedication and constancy\u201d in the role.
