{"id":8147,"date":"2018-05-06T21:12:08","date_gmt":"2018-05-06T20:12:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/?p=8147"},"modified":"2018-05-06T21:12:08","modified_gmt":"2018-05-06T20:12:08","slug":"50-crocodiles-seized-at-heathrow-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/index.php\/50-crocodiles-seized-at-heathrow-airport\/","title":{"rendered":"50 crocodiles seized at Heathrow airport"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-8148\" src=\"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Crocodiles.jpg\" alt=\"Crocodiles\" width=\"284\" height=\"177\" \/>British officials have seized an illegal shipment of 50 live crocodiles at London Heathrow Airport, the UK Border Force said Friday.<br \/>\nThe year-old juvenile saltwater crocodiles were found crammed into five boxes coming from Malaysia.<br \/>\nThe were bound for a farm in Cambridgeshire, eastern England, where they were to be bred for their meat.<br \/>\nThe animals had not been packed in accordance with international regulations, making the importation illegal.<br \/>\nEach box only had room for four crocodiles but 10 had been packed into each one.<br \/>\n&#8220;It is just not acceptable for reptiles to be transported in this way,&#8221; said Grant Miller, head of the national Border Force Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) at Heathrow.<br \/>\n&#8220;The crocodiles had started to fight each other during the flight as space was limited, so little attention had been paid to their welfare.<br \/>\n&#8220;We will seize anything that contravenes CITES regulations, so this should serve as a warning to those thinking about transporting wildlife in such conditions.&#8221;<br \/>\nThe crocodiles were found on April 27.
