{"id":8363,"date":"2018-06-16T15:48:26","date_gmt":"2018-06-16T14:48:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/?p=8363"},"modified":"2018-06-16T15:48:26","modified_gmt":"2018-06-16T14:48:26","slug":"largest-eid-gathering-hosted-in-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/index.php\/largest-eid-gathering-hosted-in-uk\/","title":{"rendered":"Largest Eid gathering hosted in UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-8364\" src=\"https:\/\/english.thesunrisetoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Eid-Jamat.jpg\" alt=\"Eid Jamat\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" \/>Birmingham hosted Europe\u2019s largest Eid al-Fitr gathering with more than 140,000 people attending the celebration on Friday.<br \/>\nOrganized by the Green Lane Masjid and Community Centre (GLMCC), the large gathering saw the attendees say the morning Eid prayer and later enjoy festivities such as the fun fair and miniature golf as well as indulging in a variety of cuisines from around the world.<br \/>\nThe GLMCC launched the Celebrate Eid initiative seven years ago that allows for such a gathering to take place in the U.K.\u2019s second largest city.<br \/>\n&#8220;This celebration is one of the most important in the Islamic religious calendar and it&#8217;s an opportunity for us all to come together in peace and unity,\u201d a spokesperson from the event said to the Evening Standard.<br \/>\n&#8220;We&#8217;re overwhelmed that so many people from different faiths and from across the world have travelled to Birmingham for this year&#8217;s Celebrate Eid,\u201d he added.<br \/>\nCelebrate Eid has grown over the years since its inception, with 12,000 attendees in 2011 to over 140,000 this year.<br \/>\nBirmingham is the U.K.\u2019s second largest city with a population of 3.7 million people.
