£4 billion Malaysian investment in the UK to create 30,000 jobs

Malaysian conglomerate YTL has announced a £4 billion investment in the United Kingdom over the next five years, a move set to create over 30,000 jobs nationwide. Approximately £2 billion of this investment will be allocated to the Brabazon development in North Bristol, transforming the historic Filton Airfield site into a vibrant new community.
The Brabazon project plans to deliver 6,500 homes, three new schools, and a 19,500-capacity arena, along with conferencing and exhibition spaces. The remaining £2 billion will be invested across YTL’s various UK businesses.
This significant investment was announced during Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to London, where he met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Investment Minister Poppy Gustafsson to officially launch the Brabazon development.
Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds hailed the investment as a transformative move for North Bristol, emphasizing its role in delivering infrastructure, new schools, and thousands of homes and jobs. Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves highlighted that this investment aligns with the government’s Plan for Change, aiming to boost growth and demonstrate that the UK is open for business.
YTL UK Group Chief Executive Colin Skellett noted that 68% of the Brabazon development’s space is designated for commercial use, focusing on sectors like aerospace and new technologies, including significant developments in artificial intelligence. He emphasized that this commercial space would be a key driver of economic growth and job creation.
The Brabazon development is poised to transform the former Filton Airfield into a major amenity area, contributing significantly to the UK’s economic growth and infrastructure development.
