Arrest warrant against Mufti Izhar
A Chittagong court today issued an arrest warrant against Hefajat-e Islam nayeb-e-ameer Mufti Izharul Islam Chowdhury in a case filed in connection with an explosion at a madrasa last year.
The blast occurred in a room of a dormitory of Al Jamiatul Ulum Al Islamia Madrasa in port city’s Lalkhan Bazar on October 7, 2013. Three people died in the explosion.
The Court of Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge passed the order as Izharul did not appear before the court today. Izharul’s bail that he secured from the High Court expired March 25.
After issuing the arrest warrant against Izharul, the court later fixed June 4 for framing charge against the nine accused including Izharul and his son Harun Bin Izhar in the case. Police pressed charges against the accused on February 10.
Izharul was the founder and principal of Al Jamiatul Ulum Al Islamia Madrasa. After the incident, police later filed a case under the explosives act with Khulshi Police Station against some 12 people.
The law enforcers also filed two more cases – one for killing and the other for preserving acid in the madrasa.
