106 kg gold seized at Shahjalal airport

In another big haul of gold, customs intelligence officials seized 935 gold bars weighing around 106 kg at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on Saturday afternoon.
Being tipped off that a large consignment of gold was entering the country from Dubai, the intelligence officials were on high alert at the airport since the morning, said airport sources.
They monitored all the flights that landed at the airport from Dubai since then.
At noon, the intelligence officials detained Anis Uddin, an aircraft mechanical engineer of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, following information that he was tasked with clearing the gold consignment at the airport.
Based on information gleaned from the detainee, the customs officials recovered the gold worth Tk about 50 crore from the toilet of a flight of the national flag carrier around 2:20pm.
