51 more Bangladeshis return from Iraq

Fifty one Bangladeshi workers returned home from Iraq’s capital Baghdad this morning in the wake of severe internal conflicts involving different forces in the war-torn country.
The workers reached at International Hazrat Shahjalal Airport in Dhaka by a Qatar Airways flight around 5:00am.
They return home in their own initiatives on “security ground”, said Md Sharif of Pabna, who is one among the 51 workers.
Sharif said they worked in Hanwha Engineering and Construction, a South Korean company which is working on a project named “Bismaya New City Project” in South Baghdad.
Sharif, who went there in November last year, said he was getting handsome salary from the company but he returned home for the sake of security only.
He further said 200 more Bangladeshis who work for the same company might return home on July 10 and July 14.
Earlier on July 1, 27 other workers of the same company returned home on the same ground.
Around 4,000 Bangladeshis are working at the company in constant fear of attacks by Sunni insurgents as the latter have already swept over a large part of Iraq’s north since June 5 and are advancing to the south.
Over 20,000 Bangladeshis are working in various sectors in Iraq, according to the expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment ministry.
