Fun day out for the whole family in Bethnal Green

Young and old enjoyed a fantastic fun day of free community events at Bethnal Green Gardens in Bethnal Green on Tuesday, 18 February.
The annual event was very well-attended, with almost 1,500 people taking part in a wide variety of different activities, which were organised for half-term by the council’s parks and open spaces and sports development teams.
It brought the generations and the whole community together, with older members of the Victoria Park short mat bowls club joining children and teenagers to have a great day out.
Local people were able to take part in activities including skating on the synthetic Ice Skating Rink, a bunge trampoline, a cup and saucer ride, New Age Curling, Short Mat Bowls, athletics, basketball, Bocha, Water Zorbin balls, tennis and football. There really was something for everyone to take part in, with face painting, arts and crafts, health information stalls and bike workshops on offer.
One happy resident who attended commented: “Great for the kids, bringing the community together. Thanks for organising!”
The Mayor of Tower Hamlets, Lutfur Rahman, said: ”This was just one excellent example of the wide range of community events we supported during half-term week. I’m delighted so many people attended and had a great day out.”
