US diplomats meet Hefazat leaders

US envoys stationed at the US embassy in Dhaka met with Hefazat-e-Islam’s central leaders yesterday. The two and a half hour meeting took place at Hefazat’s headquarters at Daru Ulum Hathazari Madrasa in Chittagong. The envoys wanted to know the details of the organization’s 13-point demand, principles, plan of action, and details about the incidents of May 5 in the capital’s Shapla Chattar. They also asked about the Madrasa’s education system, and expressed their support for Qwami-Madrasa education. The envoys also paid a social call on Hefazat’s ameer Alamma Shah Ahmed Shafi.
Hefazat Ameer’s press secretary, Maulana Munir told that the Hefazat leaders made it clear to the US envoys that Hefazat-e-Islam is a non-political and spiritual organisation. The meeting was mainly held to apprise the diplomats about madrasa education system.
