War crimes accused Yusuf dies

Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeeb-e-Ameer AKM Yusuf, charged with crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War, died at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical hospital prison cell while going under treatment at around 11:30am Sunday. He was 87.
The Jamaat-e-Islami leader was taken to the BSMMU around 11:15am after he had fallen sick at Kashimpur Jail-1 in Gazipur.
On May 12, 2012 he was arrested in a case that charges him with crimes against humanity during the Liberation War of 1971.
On Oct 23, 2013 International Crimes Tribunal on (ICT) has rejected the bail plea of Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeeb-e-Ameer AKM Yusuf.
The three-member tribunal led by Justice Obaidul Hasan passed the order.
At the same time the tribunal asked authorities concern to take necessary steps to ensure necessary treatment for Yusuf.
Earlier, on October 10, Yusuf submitted the petition seeking bail on health grounds.
